MPLS Management using Policies

چکیده
Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) is in the process of standardization by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). It is regarded as a technology for traffic engineering and QoS in IP-networks. In this paper, we address the management of MPLS networks, which is crucial for large networks. We decided to follow the IETF Policy Framework approach and extended the Common Information Model (CIM) for policies with MPLS specific classes. MPLS introduces the notion of a Label Switched Path (LSP), possibly covering an entire network, which calls for an extension of the IETF Policy Framework into the direction of network and service management issues. We address this by preparing a three-level policy architecture including managing on device, network, and service level using policies. However, the main focus of the paper is the management of MPLS with network-level policies. We describe a prototypical implementation of a policy-based management system for MPLS, operating on network elements represented in a network simulator.

متن کاملAn Adaptive Mitigation Framework for Handling Suspicious Network Flows via MPLS Policies
As network attacks become more complex, defence strategies must provide means to handle more flexible and dynamic requirements. The Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) standard is a promising method to properly handle suspicious flows participating in such network attacks. Tasks such as alert data extraction, and MPLS routers configuration present an entailment to activate the defence process....

The Internet is growing to the point of needing more serious, scalable management infrastructure. Telecommunications companies and Internet Service Providers alike face the pressures of upgrading and provisioning their networks while constraining their infrastructure costs to maintain profitability and to stay competitive in an industry that is financially stressed with tight profit margins. In...
متن کاملPolicy-Based Fault Management for Integrating IP over Optical Networks
In this paper we present a policy-based architecture for aggregating (grooming) IP/MPLS flows (packet-based LSPs) within lightpaths taking into account the possibility of having to cope with further transport faults. The defined policies try to minimize the negative impact when a failure is detected in the optical transport network. Such policies deal with 1+1, 1:1 and 1:N schemes of protection...

This paper proposes an integrated traffic engineering and management system for DiffServ-over-MPLS services in Next Generation Internet (NGI). Using the proposed traffic engineering functions for DiffServover-MPLS network, the Internet service provider (ISP) can easily configure Diffserv-over-MPLS traffic flows among customer’s distributed sites, and can provide guaranteed end-to-end QoS by con...
